Youth Crime
Our Youth Crime Team has been representing young people at Police Stations and before the Courts for over 10 years. The team is particularly skilled in working with young people who find themselves caught up in the Criminal Justice system and fully understand the stress and pressures that this places upon their families.
Youth crime can range from the less serious matters such as graffiti (damage) right through to the most serious offending that any adult could face, fire arms offences and even murder.
However there are special rules put in place to help protect young people and different penalties available for the Courts when dealing with children before the Courts. The Youth Court itself is a special Court separate from the Magistrates.
Court with special rules put in place to be less challenging for youths. Magistrates themselves receive special training in order to preside in Youth Court.
Our team are specialists in this area and have a particular interest in defending young people who often come before these Courts as a result of difficulties that they suffer during adolescence together with peer pressure and gang influence right through to learning difficulties, and disorders such as ADHD and Autism. We have links with specialist professionals who deal with child disorders including educationalists, psychologists and psychiatrists.
